VICKY ON PARADE 8

The great sorrow of Victoria’s life was the loss of her beloved husband Prince Albert to illness in 1861. He was only 42 and father to Victoria's nine children. She grieved all her life, becoming a recluse after his death and wearing black until her own passing in 1901. This Newfoundland stamp of 1897 catches some of the wistfulness of the bereaved “Widow of Windsor.”
