VICKY ON PARADE 6

In 1876 Victoria was proclaimed Empress of India, the beginning of the British Raj. This stamp was issued in 1887 for the Indian princely state of Patiala, just south of the Punjab. Indian princely states were independent of but allied with the Raj. British stamps carried Patiala mail beginning in 1884. Stamps of this period show a plump Vicky  beginning to turn     gray.
